Kulture

In art we have been learning how to create magazine page layouts and how we can incorporate what we have learnt over the last term into out pages. Over he past few week we were learning how to create leading lines and focal points into our work and how to make it all fit in with each other. At the start of this we had to create some layouts of what we wanted out page to look like or what we sort of wanted it to look like and then we had to go on to Adobe Illustrator and have a turn on that and create a page on that.

Our page that we done is nothing like the way we wanted it so we are going to change the whole thing.

When we restart we are going to add some of our own art work instead of just having stuff off the internet.

Something like this or this

creative writing

When my dad Steve died my mum Emilia was left alone in England with a 10-year-old girl and a business that wasn't going so well and wasn't making enough money to support us. Mum and I decided that it was best for us and the business to move away from England and our home to start a new life somewhere else. Something you should know about my family is that we would always move around England because my dad was in the army, this would sometimes make my mum angry and whenever she got angry she would take it out on me, I didn't like it but I couldn't do much about it. The most memorable memory I remember about my dad was that when we would go to the park and walk around he would yell out to me saying “ Emma come back here” because I would always run off from them and be ahead. So when mum said we were moving I didn't want to move because it was brought back a lot of memories of dad, but I didn't say anything because it would have just made her angry and I didn't want to do that because we had just lost my dad. So when we started looking for a place to move to mum didn't want somewhere in England and that is when we ended up finding a small country called New Zealand around 18 thousand km away from England. When my mum and I found this country we knew it would be a good place for us to move to and a good place to start over again because it will be easier for us financially and there is more land there. Finding this country made me not as sad to move because it looks like a nice place. Before we left mum sold the business and all the jewellery that was in it to. The guy that brought it was some rich buyer so we had enough money to support us for a bit and enough money to get our tickets to New Zealand. When mum sold the business we went out and brought our tickets. Mum brought herself a cabin ticket and me a steerage ticket so we saved on money. The day of our departure we had to wait for about 30- 50 mins for our boat to get to the docks, then when it finally arrived at the docks we ended up having to wait another hour to actually be allowed onto the boat. While we were waiting for the boat and all that, we went for a walk to all dads favourite places he would go to when he wasn't working. We went to the park where dad and mum met each other, for the last time. We walked back to the dock and boarded our boat this is where mum and I went our separate ways because we were in different seats.

On our journey to New Zealand, mum was seated in the cabin part of the boat and I was seated in the steerage by myself with others that were in there too. Sitting in there made me really wish I was in the cabin part with mum because it stunk and it was way too cramped for the number of people that were in there. When I would get bored I would either play chess or cards sometimes I would wonder what mum was doing whilst I was stuck down here, but I knew that if she had enough money she would have got me a cabin seat to. A lot of the journey the weather would play up and keep changing making the boat feel really ruff and bring out the bad smell of the dead animals and livestock. When it was time to eat I was served dried potatoes, salted and preserved meat, floured biscuits and oatmeal, whilst mum was probably served freshly cooked meat by the crew.  Not to mention the only way I could wash was by using the salt water from the sea and that was on the good days sometimes I didn't even get to wash. This is what my life was like for the next 50-60 days. And during the ride, there were a lot of sick people that were in the steerage, and to go on top of having a lot of sick people around me I think I might have caught something from another kid. The rest of the way to New Zealand I felt a bit sick but I didn't know if it was from getting sick or from the sea and the weather being so ruff. When we were near to the dock I was taken up to my mum and we waited for the crew to tell us we had arrived at the dock and were ready to get off. Before we got off my mum asked me "do u feel okay" I think it was because I looked sick so I just replied with " yeah I feel fine" and after that, we were on our way off the boat.

When we first stepped off the boat I remember thinking wow this place look so nice, because when our boat arrived at the dock I couldn't see anything since I was down in the steerage which is why I had to wait to see what it was like. Before my mum and I were allowed to step foot onto New Zealand land we had to show someone our tickets so they knew we really did pay for our tickets and that we didn't sneak onto the boat. Once all that was done and sorted with we walked over to get all our stuff like our clothes and some personal belongings, I still felt a bit sick but I didn't say anything because I thought it was just seasickness and it will pass by soon. While we waited for a ride into the town I ran around and played so I could stretch my legs since I was stuck in that cramped place for 50- 60 days on the boat. Our ride arrived in about 5-10 mins, it arrived and we hopped in, While we were on our way to the town the driver was telling my mum and I a little bit about New Zealand, and how the Maoris were the first people to ever stet foot onto New Zealand. As we arrived in the town I looked around and I was so surprised at how different it was compared to England. We hopped off our seats and out of the vehicle to walk around the town and find where we were staying. As we walked around I felt a bit sick still and I ended up passing out. I woke up in what looked like a hospital and the last thing I could remember was hitting the ground. When I sat up I found that my head was hurting and I saw my mum sitting next to me on a chair waiting for me to wake up. One of the doctors came in not too long after that and told my mum that I was very sick and wasn't looking so good. When I found out the news I wasn't really sure how to react because we had not long just lost my dad and now my mum is going to lose me to all in the same year. Laying in the hospital bed made me feel more tired, but that also could have just been because I was dying and getting sicker the more I sat in that bed. A few days went by before I died and left my mum. In those few days, I couldn't really do anything because I was too tired to move. One day my mum decided she was going to go home and come back the next day so she could get a few of my things and some games to play, like cards and chess. When she arrived back at the hospital the next day she was too late and I had passed away overnight in my sleep. When I was dying I didn't know what was going to happen to my mum, like if she was going to be a slave, housemaid or something else, and that really worried me.

burning magnesium

Burning magnesium

Aim: to see the change in the weight of the magnesium.

Equipment:
scales
bunsen burner
scissor tongs
beaker
lighter/ matches
heatproof mat
safety glasses

Safety:
  • Have your hair tied up if it is long.
  • Wear safety glasses.
  • Don't go to close to the flame.
  • If you forget to put on safety glasses don't look at the light of the magnesium burning.
Method:
  1. Collect your equipment and set up your heatproof mat under your bunsen burner, do not light the bunsen.
  2. Once set up with all your stuff cut and put your magnesium inside the medium size beaker and weigh on your scales. (Take note of the weight.)
  3. Once you have set up and you already turn your bunsen onto safety flame, then light your bunsen burner and turn it to the blue flame.
  4. When done that take your magnesium out of your beaker and hold it with the scissor tongs.
  5. You then want to hold the magnesium over the middle of the flame and wait for it to catch fire.
  6. When your magnesium has caught fire you want to then put it into the beaker and wait for it to go out and turn to ash.
  7. You may need to repeat this a few times.
  8. When all or most of the magnesium is ash and it is inside the beaker you then want to weigh it again and compare the different weights.
Observation:

Discussion:
When I was doing this I found that you had to be very precise and careful when you weighed your magnesium because if you did it wrong or something was different then when it came to doing it again and getting the results at the end it wasn't correct. We also found out that if you don't burn all/ most the magnesium or don't get as much of the magnesium off the tongs then you will end up with the wrong results. At the start of our expement, we were using paper instead of the beakers but we found that when you put the magnesium ash onto the paper it caught fire so we decided to use the beakers instead. When doing this the magnesium is meant to get heavier than the first time you weighed it, but ours ended up getting lighter because we didn't burn all of it and we lost some of it when it got stuck to the tongs. My group started at 53.49 and we ended up with 53.39 so ours got lighter.

In therey, it should have gotten heavier.
Evaluation:
If I was to do this again then I would want to make sure I burn all the magnesium and get a more accurate result to what it should be. If you were wanting to try this then I think you need to pay close attention to the magnesium and make sure you burn most of it. I would also say that you might want to do a little bit of research on this just so you have a little bit of an idea on what you are meant to be finding out and what is actually going on when you are doing this.

Grilled beef kofta

What will I do next time:
Next time I think I will soak the wooden skewers longer and make the meat longer and thinner.
What I learnt:
When making this I learnt that you should add more flavouring to your meat so that it isn't as bland.
Teamwork:
Whilst making this I thought our team worked really well together and all helped out and done our jobs.

Zootopia

Introduction:

A character who changed in Zootopia was Judy. Judy changed because at the start of the movie she thought that zootopia was the perfect place and she has a lot of confidence, during the film Judy starts to lose that confidence and stops believing in herself, towards and at the end of the film Judy gets her confidence back.

Body 1

Judy begun as a confident bunny that believes in herself and knows what she wants. We know this because at the start of the film when it is the play scene, where the children were saying what their dream jobs were. When it came to Judy’s turn we see her move toward the centre of the stage and closer to the audience. We can also hear her say “my dream job is to be a police officer”. Once Judy has said this one of the audience members (Gideon Gray) stands up and laughs at her. In response to this Judy replies back by talking about Zootopia and how perfect it is and how it is a place where anyone can be anything.

Body 2

Judy in the middle of the film was starting to lose her confidence and stopped believing in herself.
This is because of when Judy had to talk to the reporters she doesn't know what to say and just starts talking about how all the animals affected were all predators. When Judy was getting asked too many question mayor Bellwether had to come on stage and take Judy off. Once Judy was finished she walked over to Nick and she could tell that he wasn't too impressed with what she was saying. Nick ends up walking out of the building making Judy sad and making her realize what she has done. When she realized what she did wrong she goes and talks with the chief and mayor Bellwether. They want her to be the face of the ZPD, but she doesn't want to because she thinks she isn't a hero. In this scene, we can see that Judy is sad not only from her tone in voice but in the way her ears are drooping down. We can hear Judy say “ I came here to make the world a better place, but I think I broke it” she is saying this because of how the press-conference went and how what she said during it changed the perspective of so many animals and not in a good way now the animals that are considered predators are being feared from the animals that are considered good and safe. I think that in this moment she loses her confidence because of what has happened and what she has done/said.

Body 3

Judy at the end of the film started to get her confidence back and started to believe in herself. This is because in the scene where Judy’s parent are working with Gideon Gray she first was a bit thrown back but when he starts to apologize she understood and saw that he had changed. We see Stu hopps (Judy’s dad) tell the kids not to go near the Midnicampum flowers. We can also hear Gideon Gray say “ Well now there’s a $4 word you mr.H my family always just call them night howlers”. In this scene we see Judy’s ears going up which makes the audience think that she has an idea, When Judy starts to put all the clues together she figures out what was happening to the animals going savage. I think that in this moment she gets her confidence back and starts to believe in herself again.

Conclusion

Throughout the film, Judy went through stages of believing in herself and then not. At the start of the film, she was confident in herself, in the middle of the film Judy loses all her confidence and stops believing in herself, but towards the end, she gets it all back and believes in herself. I think the directors did this to make a point that even when you go through bad times you can always turn things around. That is why they also would have used some certain lines in the film and some certain film shots to make the film or scene more realistic and relatable.

Sonia Terk Delauney

Orphism art: Orphism is a type of abstract art form that uses bright colours.

2 facts about Sonia Terk Delauney:

  1. Sonia Terk Delauney could speak 4 languages at the time she was 18. The languages she could speak were Russian, German, French and English.
  2. when her husband Robert Delaunay died in 1941 she stopped making art for 10 years. She started to come back into the art around 1950.

Our learning outcome has been: To look at Sonia Terk Delauney and Orphism to develop an understanding about who and what this is. We have been doing this through linocut printmaking. We have also looked at the focal point and leading lines.

Our techniques have been: Drawing Terk Delauneys work and understand the context. We have had to do some thumbnail sketches with colour and annotation. Then we have to turn them into lino designs.

Heart Attacks

Heart Attacks

What is a heart attack?
A heart attack is when your coronary artery gets blocked up which stops the flow of blood going to your heart, having a heart attack can cause the heart to stop which puts you into cardiac arrest.
Symptoms you can have during a heart attack:

Tightness or aching sensation.
Shortness of breath.
Cold sweat.
Lightheaded or dizziness.
Shortness of breath.
and many more that you could have. Heart attacks can vary from mild or server symptoms, there are some people that are less likely to experience symptoms. People that are less likely usually are either old or have diabetes although this doesn't mean that they can and won't experience symptoms, they might find them selfs feeling shortness of breath. You can feel the discomfort when having a heart attack around the centre or towards the left side of your chest. This can also spread to other areas. It can go to your arms, neck, jaw, and back.

Treatment for heart attacks:
  • Aspirin to help the blood from clotting.
  • Nitroglycerin to help the flow of the blood.
  • Treatment for chest pain.
  • Oxygen therapy.
Drugs likfibrinolytic or thrombolytic agents are another option of treatment this helps break down the blood clots. If you were to choose surgery then one of the options you will have would be coronary artery bypass graft this is when the doctor will get a new blood vessel from another body part to bypass the blocked coronary artery.

Diagnosed:
  • X-rays and blood tests.
  • Echocardiography, "echo" looks at the heart using ultrasound.
  • ECG: This traces the beat and rhythm of the heart by measuring its electrical activity moving from the top to the bottom of the heart.
What is angina?

Angina is like a similar chest pain that occurs when having a heart attack. Instead of your coronary artery clogging up, it is when your vessels narrow. If you have angina you are at the risk of having a heart attack and the most common form of angina is temporary this is called stable angina if you have unstable angina then you are at a greater risk of having a heart attack.

What is heartburn?
Heartburn is usually a burning pain caused by acid reflux. Most people will think that heartburn is related to your heart because of the feeling of the pain but it actually isn't. In the stomach, there is something that is produced called mucus this is to help protect the lining from the acid that helps digest food. The food pipe lakes this lining which cause acid reflux this can damage the lining. Why people with acid reflux experience pain is I think still unknown it could have something to do with your acid-sensitive nerves causing you to feel pain.

Heartburn symptoms:
The burning pain usually will start above your stomach and can possibly reach up to the back of your mouth.
  • Nausea
  • Bloating
  • Belching
Different symptoms between heartburn and heart attack:

  • Heartburn can be relieved by drugs that can reduce acid levels in the stomach.
  • A heart attack does not cause bloating or belching, but these can happen with heartburn.
  • heartburn tends to be worse after eating and when laying down, but a heart attack can happen after a meal, too.
Heart Dissection

Aim: My group is doing a heart dissection of a sheep. My aim when doing this I want to be able to successfully dissect a sheep's heart.

Safety:
  • Look out for where you make cuts (DONT CUT YOURSELF).
  • Wash your hands.
  • Right equipment.
  • Hair tied back.

Equipment:
  • Goggles
  • Gloves
  • Dissection scissors
  • Scalpel
  • Dissection tray
Instructions: Hard

  1. Use scissors to cut through the side of the pulmonary artery and continue cutting down into the wall of the right ventricle.
  2. With your fingers, push open the heart at the cut to examine the internal structure. If there is dried blood inside the chambers, rinse out the heart.
  3. Locate the right atrium. Notice the thinner muscular wall of this receiving chamber.
  4. Find where the inferior & superior vena cava enter this chamber & notice the lack of
  5. valves.
  6. Locate the valve between the right and left atrium.
  7. Use your fingers to feel the thickness of the right ventricle and its smooth lining.
  8. Find the septum on the right side of the right ventricle. This thick muscular wall separates the right & left pumping ventricles from each other.
  9. Inside the right ventricle, locate the pulmonary artery that carries blood away from this chamber. Find the one-way valve called the pulmonary valve that controls blood flow away from the right ventricle at the entrance to this blood vessel.
  10. Using your scissors, continue to cut open the heart. Start a cut on the outside of the left atrium downward into the left ventricle cutting toward the apex to the septum at the centre groove. Push open the heart at this cut with your fingers & rinse out any dried blood with water.
Instructions: Easy

  1. Get some newspaper to line the table.
  2. Put on gloves to protect our hands.
  3. Get the sheep heart and lay it flat on the newspaper-covered table.
  4. Grab the scalpel.
  5. Cut the top layer/s of muscle/s, The scissors might be better.
  6. Then identify the heart chambers and the other interior things.
  7. Discard the heart.
  8. Clean up the utensils and take the newspaper off the table.
  9. Take off gloves and scrub the living crap out of the table.
  10. Also, wash your hands.
Observation:

Discussion:

The results of doing this dissection were good. I found it fun to explore and cut the heart. When doing this I was able to identify the right atrium, right ventricle, left atrium and left ventricle. I was also able to see the arteries, veins and capillaries I even was able to stick my fingers down them and identify them by feeling how thin or thick the walls were. The way blood travels around your heart is by it entering through the vena cava and then the blood flows to the right atrium, from there the blood goes to the right ventricle. Before the blood travels to the lungs it has to go to the pulmonary artery. Once at the lungs the blood goes to the pulmonary veins which enter the left atrium. Blood flow from the left atrium to the left ventricle. The left ventricle then contracts and sends oxygenated blood to the body through the aorta.

Evaluation:
If I was to do this again I would want to try the harder instructions and try to identify more things about the heart and possibly see if I can find some health problems that the animal had. If you were wanting to try and do this then I think you should start with the easy instruction and work your way up.You could even try and find some of the tendons and veins and maybe try and make your cuts look nice and clean so you dont cut though anything you want to look at. Where does the thumping sound of your heart come from? How many times a day does your heart recycle your blood?
