First

This artwork is a photo collage of a desert road. In the image there are road signs, cacti trees, rubbish and a road. The images are very natural to what you would see outside with your blue skies, green plants, light brown ground almost the color of sand, yellow and red stop signs. Throughout the image I think there are two types of leading lines, the first one going vertically through the image following the road side and the other one going horizontally through the image between the bottom of the sky and the end of the land just above the halfway mark of the image. Looking at the image the first thing I notice is the road. The image itself is made up of heaps of little rectangular or square shapes layered and rotated differently on top of each other; some shapes are larger and some smaller.

Second

In this photo there is a red flower and the flower's shadow reflecting onto a creamy white wall. There are also shadows of lines that could be from a window. The photo is all natural colors and the lightning coming into the image looks like it is from the sun. Looking at the image, the first thing I noticed was the red flower. Throughout the image the line shadows from the window can be looked at as the leading lines.

Third

The image is of a rugby game. This image is taken from a low angle close to the grass looking up at the player and stand. The focal point of this image are the rugby players. In the background on the stand there is a long sign that goes across the stand. This sign goes from one side of the image to the other to create a leading line. In the image the colors are all very natural and the green grass is the brightest color there.

Why did you choose these images? 

I chose these images because I am planing to combined nature with human’s. I needed a background image that I can work with and edit in different ways that fit with in my folio work.

What your next steps will be for the development of your folio work.

Combined and overlay nature or flower photos within a head shot to create a series of work.

I was wanting to transition from light to dark so I have added faces screaming and neutral then layered them over top of each other. I added the black background to make it seen darker. I used Jerry Uelsmann as my inspiration.

Faking a darkroom-Daguerreotypes

Daguerreotypes photo was the most common photography style in the 19th century. Daguerreotypes were exposed onto polished metal plates which were easily tarnished and scratched, creating the main aesthetic of the photos. 

I had a go at trying to mimic the daguerreotype look. This type of style would be good if you're wanting a vintage look, if it was an image of a person and their face this type of style would show a lot of emotion because its very simple and detailed, it's also not overwhelmed from bight colours.

In the first photo shoot I really wanted to take photos of landscapes so I had something to build from and use later on when I start getting into using more layers and build on top of these images to create new ones. 

When taking the photos I tried to get different angles whether that be getting lower or higher or playing with different setting on the camera. Having some photos over-exposed or under-exposed, close-up or wide shot. In a couple of them mainly the ones at the beach I tried to play with the sun rays and shadows.

When editing I really wanted to make the image more brighter and vibrant I did this by playing around with the curves and levels. I also added a different sky to two of them so they had clouds. Next time I edited the images I’ll edited them not as bright because I think some of the areas in the second image with the bird specifically the sky are to bright

We had to create a document that had information relevant to our art work with links and information saying whether it was useful or not useful to us and what type of things you might find on this site. This was helpful when trying to come up with ideas for my folio and editing because I was able to pull ideas and inspiration from other peoples work styles

Brainstorm and moodboard

 

In art this year I want to try and capture the life within nature by doing this my art will mostly be of kiwiana things, I plan on taking photos of landscapes (mountains, flowers, trees, insects etc).  When taking photos this year I want to play with natural shadows, reflections, and light reflections. While editing my photos I want the colour palette to be black and white with maybe some pops of colours. I also want to work on the layering of my images and different ways I can use layering to create different artworks. When looking at layering I will look at David Hockney and John Stezaker works and use their art to help come up with ideas. 

Update

I have now changed to doing surrealism photography doing a merge of landscape/cityscape, space and people. Im looking at Jerry Uelsmann and Duane Michals at how they use layering to create an art work, ill also be looking at Sarah Eisenlohr and Eugenia Loli for collage ideas.

Lockdown art

 Over lockdown in art I have been going out and taking photos of what I think would have a similar look to my panel 1 board. When taking photos I kept in mind the connections I would use that would tie my panel 1 and panel 2 board together. In my panel 1 there is a lot of power line creating horizontal lines throughout my art work, so I played on this taking photos that had power lines. I also took photos using other objects in the photo to create horizontal lines like fences and railings. 

Uploading the photos to the computer I then created contact sheets and started to edit a few photos.

Taking photos / Emulations

 Last term in art before we went on holidays I went out and took photos of building around our school. Playing around with the lighting, angles and focus, we done this to get use to using a camera. When taking photos I took a photo of the T block building and it turned out having a blue tint to it which I thought looked cool. We also started to do emulations and play around on photoshop. When playing around we had to choose one of our artist out of our Traditional, Contemporary and Aotearoa. When we choose one we picked a photo and then went to photoshop, in photoshop we had to edit our photo to have a similar look to the artist we chose. 

What have we been doing in art?

 In art last term photographers were looking at 'what is a photogram?' and ' what is negative and positive space'. We first looked at what positive and negative space is. Positive space is the subject or area of interest in the artwork. Negative space is the background or the area that surrounds the subject. 

When looking at what is a photograms we had a slide that we had to fill in about photograms.  Before looking at the slide we had to do a modern day "photogram" where we gathered things around school or in the class room, placed them on the photocopier and photocopied them. When photocopying them we played around with the settings on the copier. We played around with the colours, size and brightness. When we had done around 6-10 of them we had pick 1-2 to cut shapes out of them. Once we cut shapes out we had to either use paint or pastel to play around with the positive and negative space on the cut outs. We then went on to our slide and added to the slides. We had to add all our work we had done that related to the slide. Now that we were on the slide we had to play around with layering something on top of our cutouts. We then played around with the  contrast and brightness. Taking out details, adding in new details that could only been seen with the contrast and brightness being played around with. We then played around with recolour. All this was done using google slide and the editing effects that were on there. Is a series put together from all the previous slides. With some of the images I rotated them.

First art class-mood board

In art we’ve been looking into what we might want to do for the year. We looked at what area we were waning to work in, then choosing three arts from our chosen area. There was a traditional, contemporary and aotearoa. We then had to create a mood board of our three artist.

Series and sequence

In art yesterday we were looking at series and sequences in artwork specifically art portfolios. We were put into pairs to do this task. What we had to do was look at the piece of paper that had the portfolio prints out on it and then we had to find the series and cut out where we thought they were, once we had cut them out we had to put them in a line side by side of the order we thought the series went in. For the portfolio we had we chose to put the first two artworks together and at the start because they both looked like special sketches. The next in the line was meant to be the two photographs with the greyscale, but in the picture, this is in the wrong position. Next up was the three series of works that involved some pencil sketching, patterns, design and some of the same colours as the other art pieces above of those three. Finial for the left side of the portfolio we left the last two pictures together to make one series, we did this because they both looked like they had a bit of all the previous artworks and then a little more added to change it up a little. For the other side of the folio, we left the top three artworks to the same series and then there was the final artwork that incorporated a bit of all the styles of art they used in the previous artworks same with the colour pallet they used. Throughout the whole portfolio, the colour pallet was similar.
